From your yes to your name on the warehouse record.
A cask is yours when the bonded warehouse records you as its owner. Here's every step to that moment, and whose turn each one is.
Every sale is its own delivery order.
A delivery order, or DO, tells the warehouse to move a cask from one owner's account to the next. So a cask moves one sale at a time.
Your DO names your company, because you're the buyer.
When you sell to your client, they open their own account and you issue a DO to them. They buy from you, at your price, and never deal with us.

Registered owner
WarehouseThe warehouse stamps the DO and records your company as the owner. From here, storage and insurance are between you and the warehouse.
Stamped means the warehouse has changed the owner on its records. Keep the stamped copy with our invoice.
Three weeks or three months.
The same kind of purchase can take three weeks or more than two months. The warehouse is rarely the reason: it usually stamps a DO in one to three working days.
Start it the day your hold is confirmed.
A company account is the longest wait. Send every document in one go.
What to sendChoose solo or shared quickly.
A solo move goes now. A shared run is cheaper, but its date can slip. Nothing is booked until you choose.
Sign the DO the day it arrives.
The warehouse can't record you until every signature is on it, and storage runs while it waits.
Who pays storage meanwhileHave these ready before you buy.
Each warehouse sets its own list. These are the usual asks, and one missing document turns days into weeks.
Add the warehouse's email address to your contacts. Account replies often land in junk.
Your documents go straight to the warehouse. CaskLayer only records whether your account is open. Ticks are saved in this browser only.

What brokers ask us most.
Do I need an account at the warehouse?
Yes, at the warehouse where your cask lies. We tell you which one when your hold is confirmed. If you already have one there, that stage is done.
Who pays storage and insurance?
Whoever holds the cask in their account. Once your DO is stamped, the warehouse bills you directly. Ask what the insurance covers and the date your storage is paid to.
What if the cask needs a regauge?
A regauge measures what's in the cask now and usually takes about two weeks. If it changes the figures, you agree the new ones before your DO is prepared.
Who do I deal with during the purchase?
Only CaskLayer. You get our paperwork, our updates and the stamped DO at the end.
